answers

we' ve received a few emails asking about deadlines and appropriate submission material, so some clarification is in order. although the official deadline was supposed to be april 10th, as long as we receive your work by mid april it will be included. and there really aren't any guide lines. we know that the topics are kinda vague and indefinite, but thats the point. as of right now, were taking all the submissions we get, so submit anything! now!

guidelines

there really aren't any... but this does not mean that everything submitted will necessarily be included in the finalized booklet. in order to keep the length of the booklet manageable, we may have to exclude some works, but we will try to accommodate all acceptable submissions.

the topic is straight forward, freedom and identity. because both terms are expansive and their relationship endless, feel free to submit anything. dont worry about aesthetic quality, submissions will not be screened by this characteristic, we want everyone to have the opportunity to showcase their works regardless of ability.

process

as a way to provide a circulating space for art activism, we plan on "publishing" a type of handmade booklet, showcasing the selected submissions we receive. the exact process we will use to make the booklets is still being researched, but all we know right now is that it will be awesome. everyone who submits and has their work included in the booklet will receive a copy. select submissions may be posted or linked on this page, so if you are opposed to this let us know when you submit.

background

i'm [insert name] and this is my manifesto. i am interested in creating a space where art can be recognized as significant, particularly as a form of activism. as a way to rethink identity and freedoms, we want to create an outlet for artistic expression of any kind, unstructured and unhindered. because freedoms and identity(s) are often interconnected, while also inconsistent and dynamic, we encourage the exploration of both. we recognize the legitimacy of anything created by anyone, yet reserve the ability to be exclusive. i believe that all forms of art, whether written or otherwise, can be significant as forms of activism, facilitating the expression and communication of shared emotions. although everyone's experiences are unique to their particular self, i believe that de-individualizing the feelings created by our unique experiences is important. we aim to re-conceptualize the possibilities of art as a powerful form of activism and expression, unlimited by form and critique. as a feminist, i wish to productively incorporate my politics, while at the same time accepting others with which i disagree.
